The Age of Consequences - West End Premiere

Screening of The Age of Consequences, 1830-2030, Tuesday 11th April at Prince Charles Cinema, Leicester Square

The US Department of Defense regards climate change as an ‘accelerant of instability and conflict’. A former head of the US Pacific Command described it as the most significant long-term security threat in his region. A British Government report identifying key threats to the UK found ‘more frequent extreme weather events are likely to disrupt populations, agriculture and supply chains, making political instability, conflict and migration more likely’.

The Age of Consequences investigates the impacts of climate change on increased resource scarcity, migration and conflict through the lens of national security and global stability.

Through unflinching case-study analysis, distinguished admirals, generals and military veterans take us beyond the headlines of the conflict in Syria, the social unrest of the Arab Spring, the rise of radicalised groups like ISIS and the European refugee crisis – and lay bare how climate change stressors interact with societal tensions, sparking conflict.

The screening will be followed by a debate on the issues raised. Speakers include:

Rear Admiral Neil Morisetti, Director of Strategy for the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy at University College London, and Former Commander, UK Maritime Forces

Richard Reeve, Director of Oxford Research Group's Sustainable Security Programme

The debate will be chaired by Deborah Haynes, Defence Editor of The Times.
